Third Autumn meeting, looking at Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë
Socially distanced meeting – maximum of 10 people.
We all know this is about the intense and doomed love between Cathy and Heathcliffe. Wuthering Heights, the only book written by Emily Bronte is also a story of a dark and passionate world of imprisonment, torture, ghosts and changelings set in the rugged and forbidding Yorkshire moors.
The new tenant of Thrushcross Grange is forced to seek shelter from a snowstorm at the nearby Wuthering Heights and discovers the history of the tempestuous events that took place years before. First published in 1847 many of the initial readers were shocked but after slowly gaining recognition the novel now enjoys lasting critical acclaim.
This seminar will introduce the main themes and structure of the book.
