Second Autumn meeting of the club – looking at Atonement by Ian McEwan

Socially distanced meeting – 10 people maximum

Atonement

Briony Tallis, in her seventies, is writing a novel  based on her life.  As a drama loving   thirteen year old in 1935 she witnessed an incident involving her older sister Cecilia,  her misinterpretation of which and her unwillingness to admit any doubt, has the effect of irrevocably changing the lives of several people.  Moving from 1935 through to the late twentieth century Briony tells her version of events.
